About Tariq


Tariq and his wife Krista moved to Charlotte in 2003 because they fell in love with the city and decided this was where they wanted to live their lives. They have 3 children, Chase (6), Charlotte (4, also known as Charley May), and Channing (2)


 Tariq has spent his career at the intersection of financial and technology industries, and is a passionate evangelist for rising tide of Fintech disruption. Prior to launching his startup businesses, Tariq served as the Head of Innovation and Investment for FIS Global, a $9B+ fintech company. Tariq has built a profitable business from scratch, designed and implemented global risk and cybersecurity programs, launched FinTech Accelerator programs, and completed over a dozen acquisitions. He has also held executive positions in Fortune 500 companies such as GE Capital, Wells Fargo and Wachovia.

  1. Successfully led the charge for much needed CMPD & Fire Fighter Pay increases 2 years in a row
  2. Through lobbying and partnering with legislators, DA and judges, leading the fight against Charlotte’s rising homicide and violent crime rate 
  3. Appointed by Mayor as the co-chair of Intergovernmental Relations for Charlotte,      repairing and strengthening Raleigh and DC partnerships
  4. Negotiated Increased funding for District 6 infrastructure, Championed SouthPark CNIP      Projects, Negotiating Private Sector Matches (e.g. Symphony Park and the Loop)
  5. Served as mediator for dozens of contentious rezonings, maintaining a perfect      track record after 2 years of neighborhood organizations and developers finding shared consensus (e.g. Sharon Towers, Aldersgate, Nolley Court,      etc.)
  6. Led business recruitment efforts bringing 1000’s of new tech jobs to Charlotte      (e.g. Better.com)
  7. Catapulted      Charlotte’s reputation as a global fintech destination and power player 
  8. Through working across the aisle: produced a weekly bipartisan podcast with over 47k listeners, secured the 2020 RNC convention, and launched the bipartisan CLT Music Initiative
  9. Led the Successful Opposition to a City Tax Increase in 2019
  10. Created Successful Upward Mobility Programs in Fintech without Using Tax Dollars
